Edit a Time or Expense Card

You can edit a timecard regardless of whether you have already billed for it.

If the timecard’s status is Unbilled, your firm has not billed for it.

If the timecard’s status is Billed, your firm has billed for it.

Timecard was not Billed

From Matters

To edit an Unbilled timecard:

  1. From the left navigation panel, click Matters.
  2. On the Matters screen, double-click the matter, or single-click the matter to highlight it, then in the toolbar atop the screen, click Details.
  3. From Matters Details left navigation, click Billing.
  4. From the tabs atop the Billing screen, click Time/Expense.
  5. On the Time/Expense screen, double-click the timecard, or single-click it to highlight it, then from the toolbar atop the screen, click Edit.
  6. On the Edit Time screen, make your edits.
  7. Click Save.
    The system saves your edits.

From Activities

To edit an Unbilled timecard:

  1. From the left navigation panel, click Activities.
  2. From the Activities left navigation, click Time/Expense.
  3. On the Time Expense screen, double-click the timecard, or single-click it to highlight it, then from the toolbar atop the screen, click Edit.
  4. On the Edit Time screen, make your edits.
  5. Click Save.
    The system saves your edits.

Timecard was Billed

Important

If your firm uses accrual-based accounting, you must use the Change/Write off function to delete an item already billed.

From Matters

To edit a Billed timecard:

  1. From the left navigation panel, click Matters.
  2. On the Matters screen, double-click the matter, or single-click the matter to highlight it, then in the toolbar atop the screen, click Details.
  3. From Matters Details left navigation, click Billing.
  4. From the tabs atop the Billing screen, click Invoice.
  5. Single-click the impacted invoice to highlight it, then click Edit.
  6. On the Edit Invoice screen, to the far right of the timecard’s row, click Edit.
    The Edit Invoice message box displays: Saved changes will update Time/Expense card and invoice totals.
  7. Click OK.
  8. On the Edit Time or Edit Expense screen that opens, make your edits.
  9. Click Save.
    The system saves your edits.
  10. Repeat steps 6-9 for other time or expense cards as needed.
  11. To recalculate your invoice, click Generate.
    The updated invoice is saved in CosmoLex.

From Activities

To edit a Billed time or expense card:

  1. From the left navigation panel, click Activities.
  2. From the Activities left navigation, click Invoices.
  3. From the Invoices screen, single-click the impacted invoice to highlight it, then from the toolbar atop the screen, click Edit.
  4. On the Edit Invoice screen, to the far right of the timecard’s row, click Edit.
    The Edit Invoice message box displays: Saved changes will update Time/Expense card and invoice totals.
  5. Click OK.
  6. On the Edit Time or Edit Expense screen that opens, make your edits.
  7. Click Save.
    The system saves your edits.
  8. Repeat steps 4 – 7 for other time or expense cards as needed.
  9. To recalculate your invoice, click Generate.
    The updated invoice is saved in CosmoLex.
