Enter a Trust Transaction Across Multiple Matters

You can apply a single trust credit (deposit) or a single trust account debit (withdrawal) to multiple matters.

Important

This process is not intended for use when your firm records invoice payments.

Apply a Credit (Deposit) to Multiple Matters

To apply a credit to multiple matters:

  1. Create a matter called Internal Funds Transfers for use as a bridge between the credit and the matters to which you want to distribute the funds. Be sure to link it to the appropriate trust bank and Account 2300: Client Trust Funds (Current Liability).
  2. Enter a trust deposit transaction for the credit amount.
The Internal Funds Transfers matter displays a balance for the credit amount.

  3. Enter a Matter to Matter Internal Trust Funds Transfer to transfer the desired amounts from the Internal Funds Transfers matter to the individual matters.
The system allocates your funds to the specified matters.

Enter a Debit (Withdrawal) from Multiple Matters

To issue a single trust check from multiple matters:

  1. Create a matter called Internal Funds Transfers for use as a bridge between the credit and the matters to which you want to distribute the funds. Be sure to link it to the appropriate trust bank and Account 2300: Client Trust Funds (Current Liability).
  2. Enter a Matter to Matter Internal Trust Funds Transfer in the desired amount from each matter to the Internal Funds Transfers matter.
  3. Issue a single check from the Internal Funds Transfers matter to the Payee.
The system zeroes out the Internal Funds Transfers matter’s trust balance.
