The Statement of Account is the first page of the Client Statement & Invoices document — the summary page your client sees when you bill them across multiple matters.
Our system comes built-in with a statement of account template. You can now edit this page to match your firm’s branding and wording, and add a table that breaks each invoice balance down into fees, expenses and tax.
Edit the Template
- From the navigation panel, click Setup.
- From the Setup left navigation, click Firm Settings.
- From the tabs atop the Firm Settings screen, select Invoice Settings.
- On the Invoice Settings screen, select Statement of Account.
- Click Edit/Preview.

-
The editor opens with your current statement in HTML, including its existing merge fields.
Note: The editor is not a preview. It shows the underlying HTML without the statement’s styling, so the layout will look plain while you’re editing. The generated PDF is styled correctly. To check your work, save and generate a statement.

-
Make your changes and click Save. The next statement you generate uses the edited template.
-
To undo your changes, in the Statement of Account row, click Restore and confirm.
This returns the statement to the system’s default version.
Add the Balance Breakdown Table
The [#StatementofAccount1#] merge field prints one row per outstanding invoice, with the balance split into its components. If your clients ask how a balance is made up, you can use this rather than sending a single total.
If you want the new balance breakdown table instead of the default one, remove the default table from the template.
Insert the Merge Field
To insert the [#StatementofAccount1#] merge field:
- In the template editor, create a table with seven columns and a header row.
- Type your column headings into the header row.
- In the row beneath the header row, add the merge field [#StatementofAccount1#].

- Click Save.
To check the output, generate a statement.
