A matter owner is the lawyer responsible for administering the case. In a law office with many lawyers, naming a matter owner can help you organize matters and generate reports.

Add a Matter Owner
To add a matter owner:
- From the left navigation panel, click Setup.
- From the Setup left navigation, click Matter Owner.
- From the toolbar atop the Matter Owner screen, click Add.
- On the Add Matter Owner screen, in the Name field, enter the matter owner’s name.
- If you are using class-based reporting and want to add this Matter Owner to a class, from the Class field’s drop-down menu, click the class.
- Click Save.
The system adds your matter owner to the drop-down.
Edit a Matter Owner
To edit a matter owner:
- From the left navigation panel, click Setup.
- From the Setup left navigation, click Matter Owner.
- On the Matter Owner screen, either double-click the matter owner, or single-click it, and then from the toolbar, click Edit.
- On the Edit Matter Owner screen, edit the fields as needed.
- Click Save.
The system saves your matter owner changes.
Deactivate a Matter Owner
To deactivate a matter owner:
- From the left navigation panel, click Setup.
- From the Setup left navigation, click Matter Owner.
- On the Matter Owner screen, double-click the matter owner, or single-click it, and then from the toolbar, click Edit.
- On the Edit Matter Owner screen, uncheck the Active checkbox.
- Click Save.
The system deactivates the matter owner and moves them to the Inactive area.
Delete a Matter Owner
To delete a matter owner:
- From the left navigation panel, click Setup.
- From the Setup left navigation, click Matter Owner.
- On the Matter Owner screen, single-click the matter owner, and then from the toolbar, click Delete.
The Delete Matter Owner screen message box reads: Are you sure you want to delete selected Matter Owner? - Click Yes.
The system deletes the matter owner.
